About

downstairs — HIGHBALLIN' BACK TO THE HAIGHT — The legendary San Francisco Stand-up Comedy Competition traces its roots to a weed and wine infused conversation between Anne and Jon Fox in their Upper Terrace apartment. Late into the night, they debated risking $1,000 they didn't really have to enter into a partnership with event creator Frank Kidder. Ultimately, their decision rested on whether 1976 champ Bill Farley ("the man who beat Robin Williams") would defend his title. To his ever lasting credit, influenced by an increase in prize money, Bill agreed. The rest as they say is history. All these years later, The 50th will mark the occasion by finally actually being staged in The Haight. It won't be just any show either. This will be opening night of the semi-finals where the top five finishers from each preliminary round will offer up their best ten minute set. Past finalist Dan Aguinaga will host. What a show! What a show!
